Media report

06-Nov-1893, Glasgow Herald

On Dalziel Park, Motherwell, before a large crowd. Play was exciting from the commencement, and both sides had good runs early in the game. After about six minutes’ play Freebairn scored the first goal with a beautiful shot. Murray added a second goal for Partick. Play now raged hard and fast, both back divisions defending well. But a fluky kick by Bruce let Motherwell’s right wing away with an open goal in front of them, but Crozier was on the alert, and saved grandly. Play was now kept in the visitors’ quarters, and Watson headed through the first goal for his team thirty minutes from the start. The teams crossed over- Partick, 2; Motherwell, 1. After eighteen minutes’ play Lambie put on the equaliser amid great enthusiasm. Both team strove hard to gain the leading point, and play at times was pretty rough, for which fouls were plentiful on both sides. About twelve minutes from time Paul scored the third goal for Partick. The game ended- Partick, 3; Motherwell, 2.
