You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

With Thistle sitting bottom of the league and following a 4-3 defeat against Falkirk at Firhill on 4/10/1997, John McVeigh announced "The kid gloves are off". The "Glasgow Herald" reported that he invited the press into the home dressing room after the game to ask the players what they felt was going on. It was described by the reporter as "an embarrassment". He brought the players back to the ground at 9.00 that evening to watch the video of the game on the basis that since his weekend was ruined, so would theirs be. It took another 8 games to achieve the second win of the season, ironically away to Falkirk.
