You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Thistle's ventures into Europe are few and far between but participation in the Intertoto Cup in season 1995/96 was an exception. Travel to the first match in Austria against Linzer didn't go too well. At Heathrow airport a passport control official went to the toilet taking the Thistle players' documents with him and his colleagues wouldn't allow the party to board the plane. Fortunately the flight was delayed and they all got on board. When they arrived in Munich it was discovered that the luggage and kit had been left behind. Assistant Manager Gerry Collins had to stay behind and wait for it. Consequently, the players were unable to train on the night before the match the following day.
