You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Following a disastrous start to the 1988/89 season, perhaps manager Billy Lamont knew the writing was on the wall. Drawing 1-1 at half-time at Broomfield on 24/9, Airdrie scored 4 more for fun in the second half. Possibly for the one and only time in senior football, he brought the players out to the centre circle to give them the "post-match feedback" in full view of and much to the delight of the disgruntled Thistle fans making their way out of the ground. He was sacked 3 games later.
