You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

The "Evening Times" reported that for their Anglo Scottish Cup 2nd leg tie against Bristol City on 27/9/1977, Thistle decided to experiment with a chartered flight. The aircraft developed a fault and a replacement couldn't be found and the players had to take the trip south in 3 separate aircraft in small groups. They arrived at the ground just 25 minutes before kick-off. Hardly the best preparation. Defending a 2-0 lead, they went behind on 16 minutes and eventually lost 3-2 on aggregate.
