The referee at the Thistle v Motherwell League Cup tie on 30/8/1958 blew for half-time with Motherwell winning 1-0. Some of the players were half-way down the tunnel when it was discovered he had blown three-and-a-half minutes early and the players had to come back on. During the "extra time" Andy Kerr almost scored with a header. Motherwell had to win by 2 clear goals to win the section but the match ended 1-1.
