The report of the Rangers v Thistle game on 2/1/1958 in the "Glasgow Herald" described Joe Hogan as "a makeshift right-back". It was, indeed his first appearance at No2 as up till then he had been played at centre-forward. He went on to appear over 200 times in his makeshift role!
