You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Ah, the glamour of the Scottish Cup! Thistle clocked up a huge laundry bill when they played Tarff Rovers on 13/2/1954. Anticipating there might be a rush for first use of the clean water in the dressing room's only tin bath (and that the water would only be hot if the boiler worked), Thistle (who stayed overnight in Newton Stewart) travelled to the match with tracksuits over strip No 1. Covered in mud at h-t, they changed into strip No2 and at full time they changed into strip No 3 and returned to the hotel to clean up. A 9-1 win was their reward.
