You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

A Buckhaven man with a collecting tin on behalf of the National Flood and Tempest Relief Fund worked his way through the crowd at the East Fife v Thistle match on 28/2/1953. Not in itself unusual for the time but he had lifted it from a local bar. When he discovered it was almost empty he decided to take it to the match. He explained all this when he handed in the tin at the Town Clerk's office after the match and there must have been mixed emotions when they discovered it was absolutely full.
