You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

The "Dundee Courier" reported on 8/9/1952 that Aberdeen had the kick-off at Firhill on the Saturday brought forward a few minutes and the half-time interval shortened so that they could catch the 5 o'clock train back to Aberdeen. They must have thought their plan was working out until the last 10 minutes. Thistle players Mathers and Ledgerwood suffered injuries that added to the stoppage time, especially Ledgerwood who was "laid out" twice. They caught their train.
