You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Peter McKennan missed a penalty 5 minutes from time in a 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in a Southern League Cup tie on 9/3/1946. The "Sunday Post" reported that "it went in the direction of the corner flag". A week later Jackie Husband did the same, shooting yards wide against Hibs. On 24/3 the same paper reported that in every training session McKennan took 20 penalties and regularly scored with every one.
