You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

On their way by train to Glasgow for their game against Thistle at Firhill on 4/11/1939, Morton's hamper was inadvertently taken off the train at Paisley Gilmour Street station. Morton arrived at the ground without any equipment. Thistle would have been able to lend Morton a spare set of strips but would not have been able to supply boots. All was well however when the hamper arrived separately but the kick-off was delayed by quarter of an hour. In peacetime that would have been a serious issue Morton would have had to answer for but the first few months of WW2 saw the relaxation of certain SFL rules - of necessity.
