You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Not many players make their debut in a cup final, let alone get a winner's medal but that's what happened to George Sutherland when he played in the Glasgow Charity Cup final on 11/5/1935. Thistle beat Queen's Park 2-1 with Sutherland at centre-half. The "Sunday Post" reported that Thistle had "come to an agreement" with East Fife that he would be free to play. They signed him in September and he went on to clock up 249 appearances for Thistle.
