by Jack Little

Overlapping and attacking full-backs were still in the distant future in the 1930s. The scribe in the "Scotsman" was so taken by the novelty that he found space to report that during the Thistle v Hearts match on 28/11/1931 "O'Neill, the left back, followed up his own work so far that after he had passed out to Murray, he rushed in and headed the return, Jackson effecting one of the best saves of the game".
