You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

On 17/1/1931 Thistle achieved their biggest ever win when they beat Royal Albert 16-0 in the Scottish Cup. On 31/1 the Illustrated "Sporting and Dramatic News" reported that university students collecting for charity asked spectators to donate a penny per goal scored. As the goals mounted up they changed their pitch to make it a penny per three goals scored. One penny per goal would have been more than double the admission price.
