You Couldn't Make It Up!

Goal line technology hadn't been invented in January 1928 when Thistle met Rangers at Ibrox in a New Year fixture. Had it been, it might have made a difference. 10 minutes into the 2nd half a shot either a) hit the roof of the net a foot inside the goal and came back into play like lightening (the "Scotsman"), or b) hit the inside of the bar and came back into play ("Glasgow Herald"). Either way, Thistle protested but the referee it was adamant it was a goal. Thistle players threatened to walk off. They didn't and Gibson went on to score but Rangers won 2-1.
