You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

After a goalless first half, Thistle's Scottish Cup tie with St Mirren at Love Street on 20/2/1926 burst into life with 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the second half. It was a typical cup tie and the "Scotsman" reported that at one point the referee stopped the game and appealed to spectators in the stand to stop barracking Jimmy Gibson. "He shouted something which was inaudible" but they took no notice and he restarted the game. Gibson had given Thistle the lead with a penalty but St Mirren got the winner as Denis O'Hare was being stretchered off and won 2-1. (There is no information on which set of supporters was doing the shouting!)
