You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Having beaten Rangers at Firhill in 10/10/1925, Thistle proceeded to lose their next 5 games and dropped into the relegation zone. Confidence couldn't have been high before their trip to Love Street to meet top of the league St Mirren - especially when they went 2-0 down just after half-time but an excellent 2nd half saw them take a point to stop the rot with a 2-2 draw. The "Sunday Post" reported that the Thistle players, Manager and at least 1 Director went to Rothesay immediately after the game for "a brace up". History doesn't record what that involved but it seemed to have some effect because the next match was against 2nd top Motherwell at Firhill and they won 2-1. The effect may have worn off quickly however. Having taken 3 points off the top 2 teams, the next match was a defeat at Tannadice against 4th bottom Dundee United who played all of the 2nd half with 10 men.
