You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

The "Sunday Post" reported on 19/6/1921 that during the SFA tour of Canada Willie Bulloch and 2 Motherwell players while travelling by car between Hamilton and Toronto had been involved in a collision with another car. The petrol tank of one of the cars was burst. The order went out to stop smoking but when one of the players (unnamed) threw away a cigarette end their car caught fire. The players "made a thrilling leap through the flames" to safety. The car was completely burned out.
