You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Season 1919/20 opened with terracing admission prices increased from 6d to 1/-. The decision was not widely popular to say the least and an "Anti Shilling Gate Committee" was formed. They handed out leaflets before the opening games, including Firhill, encouraging a boycott but around 15,000 turned up. The call for a boycott was unfortunate in Thistle's case. At the SFL annual meeting on 2/6 they had proposed that prices should only be increased to 7d but they didn't get the necessary number of clubs to vote for their proposal. Presumably that point was missed by the committee.
