You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Thistle finished season 1912/13 in 2nd bottom place (Queen's Park were bottom). At the annual SFL meeting on 2/6 Wm Ward chaired the meeting but left the room along with the representative from Queen's Park while re-election votes were cast. Both Thistle and Queen's Park were re-elected. The meeting also went on to discuss and vote on a proposal that the league be expanded to 20 clubs. This was also carried. The motion had been submitted by, er, Partick Thistle FC. They only scored 40 goals in 34 league matches that season, trying 13 different centre-forwards to find a goal scorer.
