You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

William Cram won't take up too much space in the annals of the club - he played only one match (probably a trial) while with East Stirlingshire. He was considered to be a fine left winger locally and was one of Shire's better players but in a match on 27/3/1909 against Ayr United all the play was down the "wrong" wing. He just couldn't get into the match. The "Falkirk Herald" reported that a sympathetic ice cream salesman walking round the track offered him a free "slider" (a wafer) which Cram refused. "Willie looked as if he needed something warmer".
