You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

After a poor start to season 1904/05 Thistle strung together 8 consecutive wins followed by a 2-2 draw away to Celtic, climbing to 3rd in the league in the process. Several papers reported on 19/12/1904 that an unnamed Thistle director had presented every team member with a gold watch for drawing at Celtic Park. (There was no mention of the 8 wins!) The next match was on Christmas Eve away to lowly Airdrie who hadn't won a game since the teams had last met in October. The bubble burst with a 3-0 defeat.
