You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

The Scottish Cup tie away to Galston on 13/1/1900 was not without difficulty for some of the players and supporters alike. The "Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" reported that "it could hardly be said that Partick had out their best representation as, owing to a misunderstanding on the part of the railway company, two of their players and a number of their supporters were left standing on the platform at Gorbals station". It appears Thistle had brought enough players to make up a full team however. The game was just 3 minutes old when the 2 players arrived at the ground - too late to take part. They had been driven from Kilmarnock. There was no mention of what happened to the stranded supporters.
