You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

The "Dundee Advertiser" and "Scotsman" both reported on 27/9/1899 that at the SFA monthly committee meeting player Dick Richmond claimed PT owed him £10.17s.6d arrears of wages.  PT claimed that in October the previous year the players had been called together to explain that due to financial difficulties they would be paid as soon as possible.  3 players had now been paid in full.  The committee took pity and recognised that making Thistle pay arrears in full at once would effectively see the club fold (!). They were ordered to pay the player £2 a week.
