You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

Thistle's first home match of season 1896/97 was, indeed, at home - despite Thistle requesting (and their opponents Morton agreeing ) to play in Greenock. An important cricket fixture was scheduled for the Saturday and Thistle were concerned it would impact on the attendance. Port Glasgow objected however (they were playing at home) so the fixture went ahead at Inchview. West of Scotland v Drumpellier attracted 3,000 according to the "Glasgow Herald". The PTFC Official History gives the Morton attendance as 4,000.
