You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

After a 5-4 defeat away to Alloa in the Scottish Qualifying Cup on 12/10/1895, Thistle lodged an appeal on the basis of an ineligible player. On receipt of the appeal, the SFA immediately postponed a forthcoming match between Alloa and Abercorn pending the outcome. At the appeal on 29/10 Thistle withdrew the appeal and admitted they had not been in possession of all the facts. It was decided that Thistle had to reimburse Alloa and Abercorn for their expenses because their proposed game had been postponed. It left Thistle £2.19s.7d out of pocket (around £130 at current prices).
