You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

In November 1893 the rumour got about that Willie Paul wanted to play for Corinthians and that when they didn't approach him, he wrote to them asking them to "sign" him.  He denied this. The story of the time, said to be true and repeated in several different papers, was that a Glasgow Sunday School teacher was talking to his class about Paul and the Corinthians when a wee urchin stood up and answered that Paul never went to the Corinthians because he played for Partick Thistle.
