The "Glasgow Herald" on 31/8/1891 was scathing in its criticism of the Queen's Park goalkeeper G Gillespie. "He never in his long and distinguished career played a worse game". "He was grossly to blame for the result". (Queens won 6-5!) The SFA Scotland players' archive describes him as "probably the top goalkeeper of his day".
