Athletic News reported on 11/4/1883 that during Thistle's match against Blackburn Olympic the Olympic keeper was seen eating a Melton Mowbray pie nearing the end of the match. It wasn't a particularly one-sided game, although his team were winning 2-0 at the time. History doesn't recall if he choked on it when he discovered that Erskine and Gardiner were attacking on the break.
