Willie Loney |
![]() William Loney was born on Saturday, 31st May, 1879, in Denny, Stirlingshire. The midfielder signed for George Easton's Thistle on Thursday, 7th May, 1914, having most recently been with Motherwell. Aged 35, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 15th August, 1914, in a 4-0 defeat away to Ayr United in the SFL First Division. Willie scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 28th November, 1914, in a 4-1 defeat away to Hibernian in the SFL First Division. He scored his second and final goal for the club on Saturday, 19th December, 1914, in a 3-1 win away to Clyde in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for Thistle on Saturday, 9th January, 1915, in a 6-1 defeat away to Celtic in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 19 occasions. His club-list included Denny Athletic, Celtic, Motherwell, Partick Thistle and Clydebank FC. Willie died on Tuesday, 6th March, 1956, in Drumchapel, Glasgow, aged 76. |
