Willie Jamieson |
William George Jamieson was born on Saturday, 27th April, 1963, in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The 5' 11 (12st 0lbs) defender signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Monday, 21st September, 1992 (after a short trial period), having most recently been with Dundee. Aged 29, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 12th September, 1992, in a 4-1 defeat at home to Rangers in the SFL Premier Division. Willie scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 24th October, 1992, in a 2-0 win away to Dundee in the SFL Premier Division. He scored the last of his 8 goals on Saturday, 24th April, 1999, in a 3-2 defeat away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SFL Second Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 8th May, 1999, in a 2-2 draw away to Queen of the South in the SFL Second Division, having clocked up 131 appearances as a Jag. Willie's club-list included Hibernian, Hamilton Academical, Dundee, Partick Thistle, Heart of Midlothian, Ayr United, Coleraine and Whitehill Welfare. |
Another of John Lambie's shrewd moves in the transfer market. First came to Firhill in the early stages of season 92/93 as a trialist following a surprise free transfer from Dundee, the side that had pipped Thistle to the First Division title the season before. Despite an inauspicious start to his Thistle career, the Jags losing his first game 4-1 to Rangers and Willie himself being sent off 7 days later at Aberdeen, he did enough to earn a contract. He quickly established himself in the heart of the Thistle defence and became a lynchpin as Thistle twice staved off relegation. Moved to Hearts in exchange for Wayne Faster and missed out on a third successive successful fight against relegation. Later moved to Ayr United before sampling life in Northern Ireland and rejoined Thistle in the summer of 1998 as part of a new three man managerial team. Despite performing solidly enough he was clearly not the player he hod once been and he left the club in the summer. |
