Willie Devine |
William Devine was born on Tuesday, 22nd August, 1933, in Ayr, South Ayrshire. The forward signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle on Friday, 20th November, 1959, having most recently been with Watford. Aged 26, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 28th November, 1959, in a 3-1 win at home to Celtic in the SFL First Division. Willie scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 12th December, 1959, in a 4-2 win at home to St Mirren in the SFL First Division. He scored the last of his 3 goals on Saturday, 20th February, 1960, in a 1-0 win at home to Raith Rovers in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 12th March, 1960, in a 2-0 defeat away to Celtic in the Scottish Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 19 occasions. His club-list included Whitletts Victoria, St Mirren, Watford, Partick Thistle, Accrington Stanley and Cambridge City. Willie died on Wednesday, 16th April, 1997, in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, aged 63. |
