William McGowan was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The defender signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Saturday, 16th February, 1946, having most recently been with Newarthill Hearts. He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 20th April, 1946, in a 2-2 draw away to Clachnacuddin in the Victory Cup. There were no goals for William during his spell with Thistle. He played his second and last game for the club on Saturday, 25th May, 1946, in a 2-0 defeat away to Hibernian in the Victory Cup. William's club-list included Newarthill Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stenhousemuir.
