• William McDonald [i], c1896 (HA) William McDonald was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The midfielder joined Thistle in 1884. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 20th December, 1884, in a 5-4 friendly draw away to Dundee Harp. William scored his first known goal for Thistle on Saturday, 7th September, 1889, in a 3-2 defeat away to 3rd L.R.V. in the Scottish Cup. He scored the last of his 9 known goals on Saturday, 24th March, 1900, in a 5-3 win at home to Abercorn in the SFL Second Division. He played his last known game for the club on Tuesday, 20th August, 1901, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Queen's Park in a Benefit match, having clocked up at least 123 appearances for the Thistle. His club-list included Partick Thistle and Bedminster. 1887 - GREENOCK CHARITY CUP Sat-28-May-1887 [a] L2-5 Morton (Greenock Charity Cup Final) Thistle won the toss and booked the wind. They soon had the home keeper under pressure yet it was Morton who took the lead. Thistle scored twice but by h-t it was 2-2, full-back Caldwell blinded by the sun in the move. Morton dominated the 2nd half and ran out worthy winners. Committee

1897 - SFL SECOND DIVISION Sat-17-Apr-1897 [h] W2-0 Kilmarnock (SFL Second Division - game 17) Despite almost constant pressure Thistle had only one goal to show for their efforts by h-t. The 2nd half was just as close but a second goal eased the nerves and secured the championship but promotion to the first division was only confirmed by committee on 1 June. Lamont and Currie got the goals. Committee

1900 - SFL SECOND DIVISION Sat-31-Mar-1900 [a] W4-2 Hamilton Academical (SFL Second Division - game 18) Special trains took 1,500 fans to see Hamilton open the scoring (20) then an off-side flag robbed them of a 2nd before Blackwood scored a hat-trick before h-t. Paul made it 4 with “the best goal of the game” (GH) before Accies scored late on. Champions. Elected to Div 1 on 16 May. Committee

• William McDonald, 1911 (SR) William McDonald was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The midfielder signed for George Easton's Thistle on Wednesday, 1st December, 1909, having most recently been with Maryhill. He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 25th December, 1909, in a 3-1 win at home to Hibernian in the SFL First Division. William scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 15th April, 1911, in a 6-1 friendly win at home to East Stirlingshire. He scored his second and last goal on Wednesday, 3rd January, 1912, in a 5-3 defeat away to St Mirren in a Benefit match. That turned out to be his last game for the club, having appeared as a Jag on 54 occasions. His club-list included Maryhill, Partick Thistle, St Mirren and Vale of Leven. 1911 - GLASGOW CUP Sat-07-Oct-1911 [n] L0-1 Rangers (Glasgow Cup Final) Celtic Park. “One of the brightest (finals) in the history of the competition” (GH). Thistle were by far the better team but Rangers scored a scarcely deserved goal while McKenzie was off injured (35). Back to 11 men Thistle rued wasted chances and Thomson blasted over with just the keeper to beat (89). George Easton
