William Houston was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. *

The defender signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Monday, 16th April, 1945, having most recently been with Benburb.

He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 17th November, 1945, in a 2-1 defeat away to Falkirk in the Southern League.

There were no goals for William during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 8th May, 1946, in a 2-1 win at home to Cowdenbeath in the Victory Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 7 occasions.

William's club-list included Benburb, Partick Thistle and Ayr United.

Bio Extra

Left back who came through at Benburb and signed for Thistle in the summer of 1945. Played in 3 Southern League game games between November and February that season, including two very fine Firhill wins at over Hamilton Academical (5-1 in November) and Motherwell (3-0 in February). Played in the first two rounds of the one-off Victory Cup in the sprintime of '46, home and away to Clachnacuddin & Cowdenbeath, ensuring Thistle's participation in the Quarter Finals (in which they would lose to Hibs). Was freed in October of that year and switched to Ayr United of the new SFL Division B.
