William Herbertson was born on Wednesday, 10th September, 1873, in Blythswood, Glasgow. The forward signed for Thistle in August, 1893, having most recently been with South Western. Aged 19, he made his first known appearance on Saturday, 19th August, 1893, in a 3-2 win away to Morton in the SFL Second Division. There were no known goals for William during his spell with Thistle. He played his last known game for the club on Saturday, 16th September, 1893, in a 2-1 defeat away to Glasgow Thistle in the Glasgow Cup, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 3 occasions. His club-list included South Western and Partick Thistle. William died on Thursday, 10th April, 1930, in Partick, Glasgow, aged 56.

Away from the football, William worked as a shipyard clerk and was married to Edith Mary Horsman. Acute appendicitis leading to a haemorrhage was the cause of his demise in April 1930. |
