The forward signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Saturday, 4th January, 1941, having most recently been with Wishaw.

He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 4th January, 1941, in a 4-0 win at home to Queen's Park in the Southern League.

William scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 15th March, 1941, in a 4-2 win away to Celtic in the Southern League Cup.

He scored the last of his 3 goals on Tuesday, 12th May, 1942, in a 2-2 defeat (on corners) at home to Clyde in the Glasgow Charity Cup.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 29th August, 1942, in a 3-2 win away to Queen's Park in the Southern League, having appeared as a Jag on 18 occasions.
