Turnbull [i]
Turnbull [i]
A. Player

probably born in Scotland

Turnbull (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. *

The forward appeared, possibly as a guest, for Thistle in December, 1900.

He made his debut appearance on Monday, 31st December, 1900, in a 1-1 friendly draw away to Aberdeen FC.

There were no goals for Turnbull in his brief spell with Thistle.

He made his second and last appearance on Tuesday, 1st January, 1901, in a 4-3 friendly defeat away to Clachnacuddin.

His known club-list included only Partick Thistle.

We don't know where or when Turnbull died. *

Historian's note: The OH credits the two appearances mentioned below to Tom Turnbull, but this seems very unlikely. Firstly, Tom Turnbull was a renowned defender, whereas Turnbull [i] appeared at inside right on both of his appearances. More importantly, Tom Turnbull signed for Sheffield United in September, 1900, and stayed with them for 2½ years. We haven't seen any contemporary supporting evidence to identify Turnbull [i] and Tom Turnbull as one and the same, and unless that changes, we feel the sensible option is to treat them as two different individuals. We note that SFLPR backs up the OH contention, but since the former appeared 5 years after the latter, duplication of the OH data is the likeliest explanation for that.
