![]() Thomas set out on his footballing journey with Claremont in East Kilbride, and joined the ThistleWeir Youth Academy, just as he was turning 12 in January 2019. As the years have turned, he's developed into a big, strong forward, who can handle himself in the penalty box. In March 2023, he got his first goal for the Thistle Under 18s in a 5-3 league win away to Morton, the start of a personal run which produced 5 goals in 5 league games. Around about the same time, having just turned 16, Thomas, and a number of other Academy players, were experiencing some high-level Reserves football with Thistle which undoubtedly will have toughened them up some! 2023-24 began with a haul of 4 in a 9-1 pre-season friendly win over Falkirk, and Thomas proceeded to vie with Ceiran Loney and Sallu Turay at the top of the competitive goals chart. It was a decent season in which the young Jags ran to the last 8 of the Scottish Cup and, in early March 2024, Thomas grabbed the headlines with an excellent first-half hat-trick in a 3-2 league win at home to Ayr United. He was the first Jag since Ricco Diack almost a year earlier to bag a hat-trick for Thistle in the U-18s league. This certainly caught the attention of the first team management; just a couple of weeks later Thomas, and his Academy teammate Ché Campbell, were invited to training sessions with the first team, culminating in a place in the matchday squad for a visit to Arbroath on league business. The 17-year-old Thomas was involved in several first-team matchday squads in the latter half of 2023-24 and, in July 2024 - along with his Academy mates Luis Cameron & Ché Campbell - he formally joined the senior squad, signing a two-year modern apprentice deal. Injury hindered Thomas’ opportunities in the early portion of the 2024-25 season, but he returned to action in a Youth Cup tie against Bank’s O’Dee in early December 2024. 4 weeks later, a loan move to West of Scotland First Division outfit Cumbernauld United until the end of the season was seen as the perfect opportunity for the attacker to gain experience in a competitive environment. |
