Sports Days at Firhill
Sports Days at Firhill
Athletics and 5-a-Sides were on the card for these popular meetings. The PTFC version (first seen in the nineteenth century) was described as an annual event at the inaugural Firhill lauch in the summer of 1919.

notes:
▪ Complete card listed.
▪ This appears to have been a one-off attempt by the Maryhill branch of the Partick Thistle Supporters Club to revive the old Sports Day format. Alas, due to the shortage of notice, no permit was available from the S.A.A.A. for the promotion of track events, so patrons had to make do with the Drymen-Firhill road race.
▪ Tribute was paid to the late Donald Robertson who was to have taken part in the road race. Maryhil YC Pipe Band played a lament, “Flowers of the Forest”, and the crowd stood bare-headed for one minutes silence.

▪ The biggest ovation of the evening was reserved for Donald Robertson, AAA Marathon champion, who finished first in the 14-mile race before his closest competitor had entered the ground.
