 Simpson (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The midfielder was a guest player for George Easton's Thistle in August, 1908. He made his only appearance on Thursday, 20th August, 1908, in a 3-2 win away to Clyde in a Benefit match. There were no goals for Simpson in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Simpson died. *

 Thistle would win only 3 matches out of 40 in the wretched homeless season of 1908-09, one of which was merely a friendly. It came on match day two at Shawfield in a fundraiser for a local Masonic Lodge. Both teams experimented with guests from the Juniors, one of which was "Simpson" at centre half for Thistle. A clever goal by John Callander put Thistle ahead at half-time, then Andrew Davidson and Bill Gray put them well ahead. 2 late goals by James Loney (brother of the famous Willie Loney) put a better complexion on things from a Clyde point of view. The Daily Record listed "Simpson" in inverted commas, the suggestion being that it may have been a psuedonym. The report did reveal that he was a Glasgow junior who played half between Doran and Gray and that he was "as smart as either". |
