Alexander Clark was born on Sunday, 28th October, 1956, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire. The 6' 0 (12st 7lbs) forward signed for Thistle as player/manager on Friday, 3rd November, 1989, having most recently been with Heart of Midlothian. Aged 33, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 11th November, 1989, in a 3-1 win at home to Hamilton Academical in the SFL First Division. There were no goals for Sandy during his spell with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 26th December, 1989, in a 1-1 draw at home to Clydebank in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 3 occasions. Sandy's club-list included Airdrieonians, West Ham United, Rangers, Heart of Midlothian, Partick Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic. |
After John Lambie left the club in November 1989 Sandy was appointed player/manager in his place, and made his playing debut shortly after. The bustling style which had been effective in the Premier Division with Hearts was affected by his lack of fitness and as a consequence he played rarely. He was sacked soon after as performances deteriorated. |
