Bio Extra

Ryan is the youngest known Jag to appear in a matchday squad when he sat on the bench for a fixture against Ross County in November 2008. He continued his progression into part of the first team squad and made his long awaited debut on the final day of the 2010/11 season, keeping a clean sheet into the bargain.

With first-team football essential for Ryan’s development, the chance to spend two and a half seasons out on loan was one he snapped up. At first the young custodian joined Albion Rovers spending the second half of the 2012/13 season in Coatbridge. This was followed up with two season long loan spells at Dunfermline Athletic where Ryan’s performances saw him scoop a number of Player of the Year awards.

Having returned to Firhill for the start of the 2015/16 campaign, Ryan was kept out of the team by the strong performances of Tomas Cerny but after the Czech picked up a couple of injuries, Ryan was given the opportunity to show what he could do at the highest level for the club. He produced his best form in a Jags jersey during the 2016/17 campaign before injury forced him onto the sidelines for the second half of the year.

After his release from relegated Thistle in May 2018, Scully signed for fellow Championship side Greenock Morton. After losing his place in the first team to Derek Gaston, he asked to be released and was given a free transfer by mutual consent in January 2019. Scully become new Dunfermline manager Stevie Crawford's first signing in January 2019, returning to East End Park after three-and-a-half years. He signed on a six-month deal, with the option to extend for a further year. After 18 months with the club, he was released in May 2020 at the end of his contract.

On 2 October 2020, Hamilton Academical announced the signing of Scully on a short-term deal until January 2021. On 19 May 2021 it was announced that he would leave Hamilton at the end of the season, following the expiry of his contract. Scully remained at the club until November 2021, when he left to join the police.

After a couple of seasons out, Ryan returned to the game in 2023-24 with 7th tier Drumchapel United of the West of Scotland League First Division and, brilliantly, he was named in SM Media's team of the year for the Division, along with another ex-Jag, Ruaridh McIntyre.
