![]() Robert Chalmers Lyle was born on Sunday, 26th August, 1888, in Glasgow. The 5' 9½ (11st 10lbs) midfielder signed for George Easton's Thistle on Thursday, 20th August, 1908, having most recently been with Glasgow Perthshire. Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 22nd August, 1908, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Rangers in the SFL First Division. Robert scored his only goal for Thistle on Saturday, 20th February, 1909, in a 3-3 draw away to Motherwell in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Monday, 25th April, 1910, in a 3-1 friendly defeat away to Maryhill / Glasgow Perthshire XI, having appeared as a Jag on 59 occasions. His club-list included Glasgow Perthshire, Partick Thistle and Derby County. Robert died on Monday, 13th December, 1965, in Glasgow, aged 77. |
