Bio Extra

The son of George Little (sawyer) and Elizabeth Little (née Shannon), who were married in County Monaghan in January, 1872.

Robert's footballing career never really got going, but all five of the half-back's games for the first team were important league and cup affairs, all within the first couple of months of season 1895-96. Thistle made history in Robert's last-ever game - but not in the way we wanted. The Jags were drawn away to Alloa for the ultimate match of their inaugural Scottish Qualifying Cup campaign. It was a winnable tie, but a disastrous 5-4 loss meant that the club would not play in the Scottish Cup for the one and only time in its history as an SFA member, 1880 to date.

For whatever reason, that spelled the end for Robert's fledgling career as a Jag, but it seems that he was always a supporter of the club, for he served on various committess at the turn of century. With his address (48 Hayburn Street, Partick) being listed when he served as match secretary in 1902-03, we were able to positively identify his life particulars and find a photo, which is always pleasing!
