Robert John Docherty was born on Saturday, 11th September, 1965, in Glasgow.

The 5' 8 (9st 6lbs) forward signed for Derek Johnstone's Thistle on a short-term basis circa August, 1986, having most recently been with Hibernians.

Aged 20, he made his debut appearance on Monday, 4th August, 1986, in a 1-0 friendly win at home to Celtic XI.

There were no goals for Robert during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 16th September, 1986, in a 2-0 defeat away to Dunfermline Athletic in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 4 occasions.

Robert's club-list included St Mirren, Hamilton Academical, Dundee, East Stirlingshire, Hibernians, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock, Dumbarton, Stirling Albion, Stranraer and Albion Rovers.

Played a few games for the club as a trialist under Derek Johnstone in midfield, he showed a little promise and ability but did not figure in the team again. Previously with Hamilton, Dundee and East Stirlingshire for similarly short periods.
