Ray Montgomerie |
Samuel Raymond Montgomerie was born on Monday, 17th April, 1961, in Irvine, North Ayrshire. The 5' 8 (11st 12lbs) defender signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Wednesday, 14th July, 1999, having most recently been with Kilmarnock. Aged 38, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 17th July, 1999, in a 2-0 defeat away to Livingston in the Motorola Cup. There were no goals for Ray during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2006, in a 2-2 draw at home to Celtic XI in a Benefit match, having appeared as a Jag on 41 occasions. Ray's club-list included Saltcoats Victoria, Newcastle United, Dumbarton, Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle. |
In outstanding form for Kilmarnock despite his advancing years, it was a major coup by John Lambie to lure him to Firhill for season 99/00. Was an almost ever-present that year and his experience added tremendous stability to the defence. That was to be his final season in the game, and he retired in May 2000. |
