● Paul McGinn, 2017 (SUN)

born in Scotland

Paul McGinn was born on Monday, 22nd October, 1990, in Glasgow.

The 5' 9 (10st 5lbs) defender signed for Alan Archibald's Thistle on Thursday, 31st August, 2017, having most recently been with Chesterfield.

Aged 26, he made his debut on Friday, 15th September, 2017, in a 2-2 draw at home to Rangers in the SPFL Premiership.

There were no goals for Paul during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Sunday, 20th May, 2018, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Livingston in the SPFL Premiership play-off Final, having appeared as a Jag on 32 occasions.

At August, 2022, Paul's club-list included Queen's Park, St Mirren, Dumbarton, Dundee, Chesterfield, Partick Thistle, Hibernian and Motherwell.

Bio Extra

Most commonly used as a full-back on the right side, Paul has also been utilised at centre-back and also as a right-midfielder. Raised in Clydebank, he started his career at Queen’s Park and earned his first big move to St Mirren in 2012. He went on to play for Dumbarton and Dundee, before moving south to Chesterfield. Returning to Scottish football, he signed a one-year deal with Thistle in August 2017, but it ended in relegation from the Premiership, via the playoffs, whereafter Paul returned to St Mirren for his first substantial spell with the Paisley side. With 5 months left on his 2-year-contract, he signed an 18-month deal with Hibernian in January 2020, the Edinburgh side paying an undisclosed transfer fee to acquire his services.

Paul earned his first international cap in September 2021, when he came on as a second half sub for Stephen O’Donnell in Austria, a case of ex-Jag replacing ex-Jag in the national colours. It was a quirky affair in many ways. His brother John was already on the field, and they became only the third siblings to play together for the national team since the end of World War II. It was also the first occasion that he and Scotland captain Andy Robertson had played together since their time in the fourth tier of Scottish football with Queen's Park eight years earlier. Paul signed a one-year-deal with Motherwell in June, 2022.
