 McKnight (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward appeared a trialist for Thistle in January, 1896. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 2nd January, 1896, in a 3-0 friendly win away to Dundee. There were no known goals for McKnight during his spell with Thistle. He played his second (and last known) game for the club on Saturday, 4th January, 1896, in a 2-1 friendly defeat away to Aberdeen FC. His club-list included Newcastle United and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when McKnight died. *

 Under their “Junior Football Gossip” column, the Daily Record (8/11/1895) gave us a little insight to this player:
It seems then that he recently tried at Newcastle, although we can find no other contemporary reports to link him there, so it must have been a pretty low key arrangement, perhaps a trial in their second eleven? The right sided forward got his chance with Thistle several weeks later in the New Year tour of the north, turning out in the 3-0 win at Dundee (2 January 1896) and the 1-2 loss at Aberdeen (4 January 1896). James McKnight of Jordanhill Juniors is a good candidate, as we did have a supply line from those quarters in that era. We'll keep an eye out… |
